The unit examines the philosophical underpinnings of education, the role of TVET in national development, and its alignment with Kenya's Vision 2030 and other policy frameworks. Learners will engage with concepts such as relevance, equity, quality, and lifelong learning in TVET. The course also encourages critical reflection on the historical and social context of vocational training systems, preparing future educators and trainers for informed, ethical, and transformative practice.
This course explores the relationship between education and society, focusing on how social institutions, cultural norms, and societal structures influence educational systems, practices, and outcomes. It provides students with a sociological lens to understand issues such as inequality, socialization, gender roles, educational policy, and the impact of social class on access to education. The course also examines the role of education in social mobility, development, and change.
